The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) provides daily information that allow understanding and model the Earth''s dynamics and processes. The spatial and temporal patterns of the land cover distinguish the anthropogenic and natural formations, and subsidize the land planning, especially in the tropical region. In the tropics, the Cerrado biome represents high landscape complexity and also high agricultural use. The objective of this work was to characterize the temporal patterns of natural and anthropogenic covers in the upper course of the Rio Preto basin. We used NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) time series from MOD13 product, between the 2000 and 2010. The noise attenuation procedures followed the steps: (a) applying a filter medium mobile and (b) separation of the fraction of the signal processing Minimum noise fraction (FMR) and (c) restitution of NDVI data using the fraction of signal. In relation to anthropogenic covers the results indicated: (a) the agriculture areas had higher absolute variation (0.562) in its agricultural use; (b) the urban area showed little variation (0.386); (c) pasture presented the slightest change in his NDVI (0.353). We concluded that the MODIS time series provided comprehension about land use patterns and dynamics considering the biophysical information and should be used in future land use planning.
